Passenger in fatal Cambridge crash had past DWI Pioneer Press

A 21-year-old man — who was a passenger in a car that smelled of alcohol — was on probation for a drinking and driving conviction when he and five others were killed early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Cambridge, Minn.

Travis Gryczkowski, of Cambridge, was the only adult in the 1998 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by 16-year-old Sabrina Schumacher, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

As part of his sentencing, he wasn't supposed to be drinking.

Although it is unclear if Gryczkowski was drinking before the crash, authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor in the collision. State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske said authorities detected an alcohol odor coming from Schumacher's car.

Gryczkowski and three other passengers: Kelsee Blackledge, 15, hometown not provided; Travis Buchan, 17, of Cambridge; and Stephen Kendryna, 16, of Cambridge, were killed in the crash involving a sport-utility vehicle. Schumacher survived the collision.
